Who suffers from dry eye🙋🏽‍♀️?

For #womenshealthawareness week thought I’d share some fun facts about dry eye as I know either you have it, or someone you know has it. Women are unfortunately 3 times more likely to experience dry eye than males. Also wearing masks these days can increase dry eye from your breath constantly venting up to your eyes. ⁣

Dry eye is the most common complaint we hear in the office, and it can be frustrating for both the patient and the doctor.⁣

Dry eye can make your eyes tear 😭your eye reacts to the dry sensation by producing more tears.⁣

Dry eye can feel like a million different thing- itchiness, dryness, sandiness, scratchiness, foreign body sensation, even, light sensitivity 😩⁣

Dry eye can cause blurry vision and double vision 🤪⁣

Fluctuations in hormones, esp post menopause, can cause dry eye 👩⁣

Certain medications can cause dry eye (cold medicines, antihistamines, antidepressants, diuretics & more) 💊⁣

Tips on managing dry eye:⁣
✔️Eat a diet high in omega-3 fatty acids 🐠 🍣 ⁣
✔️Protective eyewear outside 😎⁣
✔️Adding tears: artificial tears, gel, or ointment over the counter 💧⁣
✔️Conserving tears: punctal plugs (stopping up the drain)⁣
✔️Producing more tears: 👩‍⚕️can Rx medications- some of them sting initially- that’s normal.⁣
