Treatments for allergic conjunctivitis.⁣

Teaming up today with @pedsallergymd to talk about treatments for allergic conjunctivitis.⁣

Seasonal allergies are running high in NE Ohio especially this time of year .⁣

Fortunately many of your symptoms can be controlled with eyedrops! ⁣

Here is a rundown of some treatment options:⁣

1️⃣Artificial tears to dilute allergens⁣
2️⃣Cool compresses⁣
3️⃣Try to identify and eliminate allergens if possible⁣
4️⃣Consider systemic oral antihistamines (OTC Loratidine) especially if you are having other signs of seasonal allergies⁣
5️⃣My go to eye drops: combined H-1 receptor antagonist and mast cell stabilizers such as olopatadine hydrochloride 0.1% (Patanol or Ketoteifen (Zaditor))⁣
6️⃣Rarely I resort to topical steroids (prednisolone) if necessary, but steroids do have other side effects such as increasing cataract growth and possibly increasing your eye pressure⁣
