 ⁣
Lumify (0.025% Brimonidine Tartrate) is an FDA approved eye drop from Bausch & Lomb to relief red eye.⁣
 ⁣
❗️Caveats/Watch-outs:❗️⁣
1️⃣I recommend evaluation with an eye doctor (Optometrist or Ophthalmologist) for a complete eye exam.⁣
2️⃣There are several reasons to have red eye. ⁣
3️⃣It is important to rule out causes of red eye that could be contagious (ex: conjunctivitis) or vision threatening (ex: uveitis, endophthalmitis, corneal ulcer, the list goes on). ⁣
4️⃣I recommend using Lumify for events- wedding, photos, interview etc. Not for daily use. ⁣
 ⁣
✅Pros:✅⁣
1️⃣There is no rebound redness as compared to other OTC drops ⁣
2️⃣Most OTC redness relieves are vasoconstrictors which leads to tachyphylaxis (loss of efficacy with increased use) which can lead to rebound eye redness (ex: Visine)⁣
3️⃣Works within one minute and lasts up to 8 hours⁣
 ⁣
🔨 Mechanism 🔨⁣
It is an alpha 3 receptor agonist which constricts venules rather than arteries.⁣
 ⁣
✌🏽Fun fact✌🏽⁣
At higher doses Lumify is a glaucoma drop to treat eye pressure.⁣
 ⁣
🖐Safety🖐⁣
Phase 3 clinical trials shows 95% of subjects reported improved redness in one min, 79% maintained redness reduction for 8 hours and all groups showed low-risk for allergic reactions. ⁣
